Paper is quick to tick and slow to add up. When you want the totals worked out for you, that is a free habit tracker that shows the whole month on one screen.

Track it as a habit

Time blocking on paper

Time blocking means giving each task a slot in the day, rather than a place on a list. A list says what. A block says when, which is the question a list quietly leaves until it is too late. The schedule on this page is built for exactly that: pick your hours, pick 30 or 60 minute slots, and the page divides itself so the day fits one sheet.

Half-hour slots suit days with meetings. Hour slots suit days of long work, where finer lines only invite you to plan in pieces too small to do anything real.

Top three first

The right column starts with three lines. Fill them before touching the schedule, then give each one a block. It is the step people skip, and it decides whether the page was a plan or a diary.

There is also a short list for tasks moved to tomorrow. Moving a task is fine. Moving the same task four days running is a sign it belongs in a different week, or nowhere.

Where paper planning struggles

Recurring things. Writing the same six habits every morning is where daily paper planners get abandoned, which is why the habit list here is typed once and printed on every page. Past that, if you are tracking the same habits for months, a grid that keeps the record for you is less work than a stack of pages. That is what our habit tracker does, and the paper planner still works alongside it for the one-off parts of the day.
