Silent reading runs around 200 to 250 words per minute for most adults on general text. Reading aloud is much slower, typically 130 to 150, and a prepared speech slower still once you allow for pauses.
This is the mistake behind most overrunning presentations. A script that takes six minutes to read silently will take closer to ten delivered, and that is before questions.
The speeds above assume general prose. Technical material, anything with equations, or a language you are less fluent in can halve them without you noticing you have slowed down.
