Days between dates calculator

Total days, working days, and the same span expressed in weeks and months.

Runs in your browser. Nothing is sent, saved, or shared.

What do you need?

Defaults to today.

Pick both dates. Order does not matter, since the result is the span either way.

Working days exclude Saturdays and Sundays only. Public holidays vary by country and year, so subtract those yourself if you are counting toward a deadline.

Inclusive or exclusive counting

This is the question that makes two people disagree about the same span. From Monday to Friday is four days if you count the gaps and five if you count the days themselves.

The default here is exclusive, which counts the gaps, because that is what "days between" normally means and what date arithmetic produces. The inclusive count is shown alongside so you can use whichever the situation calls for.

Working days exclude weekends only

The business day count removes Saturdays and Sundays. It does not know about public holidays, which vary by country and by year and would need a calendar this tool deliberately does not carry.

If you are counting toward a deadline in a specific country, subtract the holidays yourself. Getting that wrong by a day or two is the usual failure here.

Why months are approximate

The result in months is a calendar count, so it lands on the same day number where one exists. Where it does not, such as 31 January plus one month, it falls back to the last day of the shorter month.

Days and weeks are exact. Months and years are conventions, and any tool that tells you otherwise is hiding a decision it made on your behalf.

How to count the days between two dates

Start and end. Order does not matter; the result is the absolute span either way.

  2. 2

    Read total and working days

Total counts every day. Working days removes Saturdays and Sundays, but not public holidays.

  3. 3

To find the date a number of days before or after a starting point.

Questions people ask

How many days are between two dates?
Enter both dates above. The tool shows the exclusive count, which is the standard meaning of days between, alongside the inclusive count that includes both endpoints.
Does this count business days?
Yes, excluding Saturdays and Sundays. It does not account for public holidays, which differ by country and year, so subtract those yourself.
Should I count the first day?
It depends on the situation. Contracts and deadlines usually count inclusively, while the plain phrase days between usually does not. Both figures are shown so you can pick.
How do I add days to a date?
Use the add or subtract tab, enter a starting date and a number of days, and it returns the resulting date with the weekday.

Numbers are easy. Doing it every day is the hard part.

A calculator tells you where you are once. If the thing you actually want is to keep something up, that takes a record rather than a result.
